you must put the map in maps folder in directory where you have installed W3 example c:\program files\warcraft III\maps. in order to play on xpam, you must install patch and server instaler.. they can be found here: http://eurobattle.net/showthread.php?t=95080

typically the dota maps are placed in your warcraft III directory, under maps\download
To play it online, you will need to connect to the server, then either join a channel (click on chat and select one, for example w3-dota) or go directly to "custom games" and find a hosted dota game.
