Hacks - what to be aware of?

Hi,

I'm not looking for hacks, it's just, I haven't been playing WC3 online until now and have no clue how do these hacks work? What to be aware of? How to identify them?

I've played against some player 2 days ago and about 2 seconds into the game I got a message saying I was disconnected, could this be a hack?

No, disconnect means that neither you and your opponent have hosting game capability. Basically, you need 3 things to not get d/c majority of time: 1) set in wc3 gameplay options game port to any number from 6112-6119 2) allow that same number in firewall 3) port forward again same # in router. You don't have to worry about hacks unless you play custom map 'dota' which is consistently plagued with 'maphackers' (people who disabled fog of war for themselves).
